From irv at furrypants.com Mon Jul 4 14:43:35 2022 From: irv at furrypants.com (irv furrypants.com) Date: Mon, 4 Jul 2022 18:43:35 +0000 Subject: [Baypiggies] Python OOP course throughUCSC Extension in Santa Clara Message-ID: <44C45DA2-0A7D-451D-9A5B-B522F3501D77@furrypants.com> Hello, I will be teaching a course called ?Python: Object-Oriented Programming? through the University of California Santa Cruz - Extension Silicon Valley (in Santa Clara.) This is an intermediate course that is designed for people who have a basic understanding of the Python language, and want to go onto the next level of programming. It assumes that you have taken an introductory course at UCSC-Extension or elsewhere (or have learned Python on your own), and can write small to medium sized programs in Python. The focus of the course is on gaining a solid understanding of object-oriented programming (OOP). The approach is to use simple computer games, which we will build using the Pygame package. I will explain how graphical user interface elements (GUI) like buttons, text input/output boxes, radio buttons, etc. are built using OOP, and how they work in an "event-driven" program. We'll go into detail about the three main tenets of OOP: encapsulation, polymorphism, and inheritance. While my approach is to use games, the techniques being taught are applicable to almost all fields of software. The course starts this Wednesday, July 6th, and will meet on eight Wednesday nights from 6:30 to 9:30, and will be done completely online through Zoom. The course will be very hands-on, with lots of sample programs. Sign ups are open to the general public and there is still time to register. The course fee is $750. UCSC-Extension Silicon Valley is accredited by various bodies through the University of California, Santa Cruz, and many employers will reimburse the cost of the course. More details and sign ups are available at: https://www.ucsc-extension.edu/courses/python-object-oriented-programming/ If you have any questions, free to contact me directly at IKalb at ucsc.edu Feel free to forward this listing on to anyone that you think might be interested. Check out upcoming events with our Silver sponsors: [image: EdgeDB logo] EdgeDB is an open-source database designed as a spiritual successor to SQL and the relational paradigm. It aims to solve some hard design problems that make existing databases unnecessarily onerous to use. Powered by the Postgres query engine under the hood, EdgeDB thinks about schema the same way you do: as objects with properties connected by links. It's like a relational database with an object-oriented data model, or a graph database with a strict schema. Register now for EdgeDB 2.0?s Launch Day on July 28 10:00a - 11:30am PDT for a series of online talks on this amazing graph-relational database. [image: Anyscale Logo] Anyscale is a unified compute platform that makes it easy to build, deploy, and manage scalable AI and Python applications using Ray. Ray is the fastest growing open source project in distributed AI; it lets developers easily convert existing Python applications to run on any and all available compute processors in parallel. From a laptop to the cloud, without the cost of complex infrastructure, Anyscale empowers developers to effortlessly develop and scale their end-to-end AI lifecycle into production, faster and at lower costs. Register now for Ray Summit 2022 in San Francisco on August 22-24. It?s the Industry Conference for Scalable AI and Python Applications.
