[Borgbackup] Suggested repo-layout: multiple vs. one

Hi all,

I'm new to Borg and implemented a PULL-approach in the past using some
Synology NAS and RSYNC: The NAS executed SSH+RSYNC to fetch some host
and store locally. I would like to do pretty much the same with Borg.

My storage consisted of two levels at the NAS: One large volume
formatted with BTRFS and within that each host or backup purpose was
one additional subvolume. The only relevant features used were
compression and snapshots and that way snapshots could be maintained
per subvolume/hst/backup purpose.

I have mostly three different types of data to backup:

* one host with VM images, mostly QCOW2 files for QEMU
* contents of the same VMs, being some Ubuntu Linux mostly
* dumps for Postgres created by pg_dump

Especially with looking at Borg's dedup capabilities, to me it makes
sense to create three individual repos for each of the above data.
This way all the data with the same characteristics is shared within
the same repo, while the concept of an ARCHIVE can be used to address
individual VMs or alike within that repo.

I don't think that too many chunks will be shared between image files
and VM-contents, so splitting up the repos reduces the chance of total
data loss in case anything goes wrong on repo level as well. Besides
that, I wouldn't like to encode too many things in the ARCHIVE name.

Is that a reasonable approach to you? Or am I missing something and
have an additional layer per REPO besides the ARCHIVE anyway?

Thanks!

Mit freundlichen Grüßen
