Hi all,
Last night at the Canberra Python Users Group, I gave a talk on my attendance at ScIPy 2013, using an IPython notebook instead of slides. I apologise for the technical difficulties with the talk (e.g. links not working, etc.) The notebook is at

These contain links to the Eventifier and Lanyrd pages for the conference, as well as the abstracts and videos of the tutorials and talks.

SciPy 2013 in Austin was very enjoyable and very useful, as well as very hot. The best thing was being able to meet the developers of major packages such as IPython, NumPy and Matplotlib, and discussing their design choices and my use cases with them. Florian Rathgeber and someone from Kitware (whose name I don't recall) were very helpful with my problems with FeNICS and Paraview, and Paul Ivanov was very helpful with the IPython notebook.

Hi all,

The next PUG is planned for the 1st of August (seems like we get the first
Thursday very early in the month this time). We don't yet have any talks
planned, so if anyone is interested in speaking then that would be great.

Paul Leopardi and I agree that the meeting should be moved over to the John
Deadman building (home of the MSI), as we seem to constantly be having
technical issues in N101.

Some suggestions: 
1 We could have someone talk about what happed at PyConAU.
2 I will have a chat to Steve Roberts to see if he can talk about 
managing the ANUGA project over the last 10 years.
3 We could talk about other projects, e.g. coding sprints, hackfests,
outreach and engagement with ACT schools, etc.

The room we have in mind is John Dedman G35 (the Neumann room).
It has a data projector and an ANU Macintosh computer. You can give
presentations either via PDF on a USB stick, or by using a laptop with a VGA 
connector.
 
The door to John Dedman is usually still unlocked at 6pm,  but you will need an 
ANU card to leave by that door. There is another way out - via fire escape stairs -
but it is a little complicated to explain in this message.

Geoscience Australia using GIS and python - and potentially also PyQt if
time permits and there is interest
- *Ben Davies* is going to give us a run down of PyconAU, and a few things
he found particularly interesting.

We are relocating to John Dedman G35 (the Neumann room). This location is
in the building I work, so I will have plenty of opportunity to make sure
all the technology is working before we get started this time! We
