Message-ID: Hi all, Happy new year! The first Canberra Python Users Group meeting will be held on Thursday 3 Feb, 6pm at the Peoplebank offices in civic. The first presentation of the year will be "Learn You a Flask" by Lachlan Blackhall (details below). I was lucky enough to see this excellent presentation at pyconau last year and am looking forward to seeing it again! Come and learn more about this popular python web microframework! Also, just noticed that the pyconau 2016 dates have been announced - 12-16 August, so make sure you mark it up in your diaries! Due to changes in the Google+ interface (eg removing the events functionality), I will be posting events to meetup.com from now on - the G+ community will still be used to share stuff (news, slides, articles etc.). Please sign up to the following group to receive future meeting invites: http://www.meetup.com/Canberra-Python-Meetup-Group/ If you are interested in speaking at a CPUG meeting in 2016 please drop me a line! Speakers receive a $50 gift card from Redhat. Special thanks to Peoplebank for kindly providing beer, pizza and use of their boardroom. Don't forget to contact David Smith (cc'd) if you are interested in learning more about Python contracting opportunities in Canberra. Cheers, Gav *BIO* Lachlan is the Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Reposit Power ( http://repositpower.com/), an energy startup using big data to drive the deployment of energy storage in the electricity grid. Lachlan is an experienced Python developer having used Python extensively in both commercial and personal projects. Lachlan holds a PhD in applied mathematics and network theory and has a broad professional interest in big data and predictive analytics. *Abstract* Flask is a Python web framework that is both lightweight and powerful. With an active community, and a diverse and versatile choice of plugins, Flask allows you to scale from simple single-URL websites through to highly complex website architectures. In this talk we will begin by setting up a simple Flask powered website and get it running on the Heroku PaaS. We will then demonstrate how to integrate Flask and SQLAlchemy (a powerful ORM) to allow database access and get this uploaded and working on Heroku as well. Finally we will discuss some more advanced concepts and review a number of the Flask plugins to get you started on the path to building great web-based projects.
