Well duh.  You're asking apache to forward content from another server.  
That's a proxy.  mod_rewrite can slice & dice the request six ways to Sunday, 
but it's not gonna magically start being mod_proxy.

And as David said, these are questions more appropriate for an Apache list 
than a Python one.
