I've had decent success with "Stani's Python Editor":

Written, by the way, in wxWidgets. And so the circle is closed, and the 
elder ones can rest again. Iä! Iä!

It has great features, but the GUI really is unlike anything you'll run 
it in. I prefer Eclipse. Not only because I just love waiting 10 minutes 
for my IDE to start, but also because of truly useful features like 
PyDev, Subclipse (excellent Subversion integration) and Mylyn (good 
integration with Trac, Bugzilla, etc.).
