I'd just like to say that if I had any clue how to eliminate the GIL short of rewriting python from scratch, I would have told people about it already.  Besides, my main interest is simply to have a sane GIL, which although not ideal, is better than having a broken GIL.

If you must know,  the mere presence of the GIL doesn't bother me too much though.
