On a side note, last couple times I set up a new project I used
virtual_env http://www.virtualenv.org/en/latest/index.html and
virtual_env_wrapper.
http://www.doughellmann.com/projects/virtualenvwrapper/ you might be
ahead of the game if you have time to tinker with those a bit, too.
They work on the OSX.
