[Chicago] How to use GitHub

I finally got a GitHub account, but I'm not sure how to do anything with
it. It welcomed me and then mumbled something like "There's stuff you have
to do now. Look it up, n00b."

So, what am I in for as far as getting and installing client side support.
I usually run Ubuntu Linux 12.04 LTS. I can also boot into Windows 7
Professional.
