Oops sorry missed the line break...(blush response) do notice that he doesn't mention F# (Microsoft's R version) or S...most of the fin and quant programmers I know use the specific language to fit a purpose. Python has become established in the trading and financial industries but R (or S the Matlab licensed version) is the lingua of choice when programming feed extractions in conjunction with algo based execution...remember C has been "dead" for a while, except for FPGA, CUDA and Laramie.
Thank You,

As someone who enjoys using both Python and R, I do not find these types of articles very informative. His thesis is that Python is replacing R as the programming language for data science. But what evidence does this data scientist present to support this bold claim?
Any **data**? None that I could find (I also didn't find any compelling data in the few links that I followed, but please inform me if I missed something). The author supports his argument with his own personal opinion, the personal opinion of others, well-known differences between Python and R (e.g. Python is more general purpose; R is more niche), and disparaging statements (e.g. R is not a programming language, which obviously isn't true otherwise the entire premise of the article makes no sense).
Python and R both have their strengths and weaknesses. Use whichever one you find best suited for any given task.
