[Chicago] Ask ChiPy: How would you invest on building skills this year?

I have in mind a set of new skills I want to develop this year, and I
will not necessarily buy any books or take any courses. I will find
mentors. They may suggest books or courses, in which case I will
follow their advice. But I'll be looking for apprentice learning
situations.
