Aaron,

Here's an additional idea. YouTube hosts a bunch of the previously recorded
long-format (~3+ hours) tutorials hosted at PyCon throughout the years. Use
the mailing list to your advantage and recruit a couple people to watch a
tutorial together then build something as a group.
