Class Descriptions:
3/24 3:30-5:00 pm Upstairs Navigating Middle-Earth with Ease
This class will focus on the many pathways available to us in the
wonderful world between standing and lying down. We will concentrate on
the head-tail connection and hone our kinesthetic listening-skills.
(all levels)
Neige Christenson has been an avid Contact Improviser since the
mid-eighties (do the math!) as a regular jammer, teacher and performer.
She also sees students individually for “Contact coaching”.
3/24 1:30-3pm Downstairs: Learn dances of welcome, harvest, and
initiation from Africa, the Caribbean and Brazil from a master
instructor. Wyoma will guide you in a celebration of life. No prior
dance experience required. Come move your body with passion and joy!
Wyoma has worked in the U.S. and internationally (Kenya, Namibia,
South Africa, New Zealand, Mexico) as a choreographer and teacher for
over 30 years. wyoma is also a mind-body consultant who works with
individuals and groups utilizing dance therapy, for aligning body and
spirit through breath and movement.
3/23 7-8pm It is my pleasure to get this jam started with an hour
intro to breakdancing. I’ll cover the foundations of toprock,
footwork, and popping. Dancers of all abilities are welcome. My goal
is to leave each dancer with some hip-hop forms from which to
improvise.
Harrison Blum teaches creative dance and hip-hop classes in the Boston
area. He is excited about having recently started to host Dance Path,
a monthly spiritually oriented dance jam in Jamaica Plain. He plans to
become an excellent surfer some day.
3/24 1:30-3pm upstairs * Rolling on a Grassy Slope * Contact
Improvisation with Martin Keogh :In this workshop we will start with
the fundamentals of Contact Improvisation: the contact point, weight
sharing, pathways into the floor and into the air, and finding the root
of levity.
Martin Keogh has taught and performed contact improvisation for over
twenty-six years. For his contribution to the development of contact
improvisation he is a Fulbright Senior Specialist and listed in Who's
Who in the World. He has taught in 22 countries and co-facilitated
Teacher’s Conferences on four continents. Keogh is the author of, The
Art of Waiting, and As Much Time as it Takes. More info at:

ALexander technique Sunday 3/25 11am
If you have experienced back, neck or joint discomfort or even pain,
you may be relieved to realize that your body is not necessarily
defective, weak or worn out but simply complaining about the way it is
handled! Learning to use your postural reflexes is key to this freeing
the body from excess tension while moving. Come and discover!
/Cécile Raynor is a certified practitioner with a 3 year professional

at a variety of local institutions from //Faulkner// //Hospital// to
//Music// //Schools// and //Lesley// //University//. Cécile complements
her practice by drawing on her experience with exercise, nutrition,

3/24 3:30 Conference room Learn easy, effective techniques that anyone
can do to relieve pain in the head, neck, shoulders, back or feet, for
yourself, co-workers, family, or the elderly.
Rezakkah Norins is a licensed massage therapist with 18 years
experience. She teaches classes and has a private practice in
Brighton.
Formal Consensus is the process we use for making group decisions in
Dance New England, Dance Friday, and other member dances. Come to this
workshop to learn the basics, get a refresher, or discover how to use
the process itself to unstick us from some of those stuck places we
find ourselves in together.
Candy Malina, LICSW, has been a participant and a facilitator of
consensus process in DNE and Dance Friday for more than 15 years. She
loves the elegance of the process itself, and really believes that most
of the problems we run into in group decision making can be solved by
knowing and using the process well.
Nia - Barbara Niles
Nia is an expressive body-mind movement and lifestyle practice,
embracing fitness and health. It offers both traditional fitness
benefits (cardiovascular conditioning, flexibility, strength, balance,
endurance, and relaxation) and more esoteric benefits (concentration,
playfulness, self-discovery, creativity, and healing).
