2003 entstehen ?Station to Station? Jan.?07) und "island" solo for two (Biennale Charleroi/Danses 27., 28. und 29. April 2007). Articulating the Solo Body focuses on techniques for spontaneous dancing rich in detail and phrasing. We will use hands on re- patterning, structures inspired by Trisha Brown?s choreographic structures, and Martin?s ReWire: Dancing States? a system that motivates dance from a Kinetic Body State and from a Neurological (Neuro) Brain State. The Kinetic State brings us to awareness of the body?s emergent desires for movement and the Neuro State allows us to dance the brain and bypass ?Mind? as much as possible. We extend these investigations into Contact Improvisation to embody these dancing states as duets and discover new vocabulary for our Contact dancing. Martin?s Ensemble Thinking (ET) creates ensemble compositional sensibilities to frame for our solo, contact, and ensemble dancing. We will work through the week towards a performance on Friday, February, 11 th, 2011, at 8:30 pm ?I recently read Peter Ryan?s essay ?10,000 Jams Later: Contact Improvisation in Canada, 1974-95? and Steve Paxton is quoted saying ?I don?t think the idea of composition has occurred to more than two in a hundred of contacters, or composition in the way that dance art uses it.? Articulating the Solo Body and Ensemble Thinking address improvisational composition as a technique and enhances the experience of Contact Improvisation both as the doer and the watcher ? +++ NINA MARTIN +++ Nina Martin?s choreographic projects have received numerous grants and awards including multiple fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts (USA) and private foundations.
