Santa Fe would be very nice!  I would like to add one additional
benefit of this:

  - It's reasonably close to Los Alamos National Laboratory and
    Sandia National Laboratory---both of which have many Python users
    and from which you could probably get good attendance.  If you asked
    the right people, they might even be able to help organize
    such an event. 

Of course, holding the conference during ski season would also be a
big plus :-).
