Absolutely. That was one of the major motivations for writing it.

It's pretty darn straight-forward. Got a section that could block? Stick
Py_BEGIN_ALLOW_THREADS before and Py_END_ALLOW_THREADS after. Don't
manipulate any Python objects within that region. It's pretty well
documented.
