[Distutils] problem compiling on SGI IRIX 6.5

I use IRIX 6.5 also.  I'm not sure why you're getting your error, but I
seem to remember that there was some issue with Python 1.5.1 and
Distutils.  If you upgrade to Python 1.5.2, some bugs get fixed.  Try
that.
