[Distutils] patch for more SWIG support

Yes, I agree with the changes suggested for my patch. I'd love to submit it to 
sourceforge but my new account registration seems stuck somewhere. It told me 
to wait up to 24 hrs. Well, I submitted it last Thursday and haven't heard 
back yet (yes, I did provide a valid email address).
