Relatedly -- I'm realizing that it would be *really* useful when dealing 
with some of these conflicts to have logging in setuptools.  Then I'd 
have a much better idea of what is happening when, and exactly what 
versions of code I'm working with.  Without that, I have a hard time 
actually debugging stuff without putting prints into pkg_resources.
