I don't think I have ever used the term executable program library in
that discussion, so I don't understand your point.
Architecture independent is the wording used by FHS, not mine
(http://www.pathname.com/fhs/pub/fhs-2.3.html#USRLIBLIBRARIESFORPROGRAMMINGANDPA),
which is why I used it in
http://wiki.python.org/moin/Distutils/Proposals/AutoconfLikeOptions.
