Thanks Phil.

My skills don't extend to tk although I can assure you that I have tried
:-) wx is easier for me.

What I'm hoping to do is a standalone application that could be fired off
just like an os package manager or ppm in perl.

As good as IDLE is, not everybody uses it. I am thinking of doing something
that could sit next to idle in the python program group.
