[Distutils] data in a source distribution?

Is it possible to include data in a source distribution?

I'd like to avoid eggs, since they don't integrate well with Gentoo packages,
but I didn't find a way to include data in a source distribution
(python setup.py sdist).

Did I miss something?

Best wishes,
