I think that's patching round the fact that the MS batch files aren't
100% consistent, and you need the SDK compilers for 64-bit builds on
one of the earlier Visual Studio free versions. Sorry I can't recall
the details, but it's basically that.

But I agree, that looks like an impressively simple Appveyor setup.
I'll have to steal it :-)
