a container object as the ``choices``

I noticed and thought about this when creating the patch.  All of the
surrounding documentation uses the `` formatting.  For example,
``choices`` occurs that way four times in that section, and similarly
for the documentation of the other keyword arguments.  So it was for
consistency.
