Since you've mentioned GUI, I did a MIPS datapath drawing app (using wxPython)
as a weekend exercise for a pos-graduation Computer Architecture course.
It is capable to draw some logical gates and other circuit abstractions.
The code is a bit rough and should go through a major refactoring, but
there is a remote chance it (or parts of it) might be useful.
It is deeply undocumented <wink>, but that can be mended.
