Message-ID: <439D9AF5.5020807@nuxeo.com>

Hi guys and gals,

this list is quite quite (?), I'm wondering if there is some underground
activity regarding the preparation of EuroPython 2006.

I'd like to make a short personal comment: I had a great time this year
in G?teborg this year, and enjoyed the talks a lot. But I was a bit
disappointed by two points:

- there were less people than the previous year

- almost everybody at the conference was also a speaker

- almost everybody had already been there at the previous EPCs

(OK, that's three points, but they are somehow related.)

In other words, we were preaching the converted.

For EPC2006, do you believe that it would be possible to make more noise
and more buzz before the conference, to try to recruit speakers and
non-speakers outside the usual circles, and overall try to get more
exposure for the conference than last year ?

I think that, like we did for the first EPC (IIRC), we should issue a
press release before the end of the year.

  S.

I (and Holger) think it would be a good idea to have an IRC meeting on
#europython early in the new year to talk about next year's
conference. The first suggested time/date is Monday the 9th of
January at 1800 GMT+1, but if no-one else can make this it'll get
moved a bit. Comments?

I also set up a place holder page on the python.org wiki:

    http://wiki.python.org/moin/EuroPython/2006

with the idea being that this will be the central place to go for
EP2006 organizational information (even if the actual information is
somewhere else, I hoped it's at least linked to from there).

Cheers,
mwh

"quiet", and yes.

I don't know. There's been some talking here and there but if it's
still happening I've lost touch of it again.

Yes. But it seems that every time the conference has stayed put,
attendance has dropped (sample size of 2, i know, but...). I think
Gtbg 1 was the busiest EP.

> - almost everybody at the conference was also a speaker

You say this like it was a bad thing! :)

This fact changes the conference financially and organisationally, to
be sure, but you'll have to talk very fast to convince me that this
level of participation is unfortunate...

Yes. Takes effort and time, though.

Obviously these would all be good things.

Well, that's fairly soon now. Do you want to write it? :)

It would be more convenient for me to have it an hour earlier, i.e. 1700
GMT+1.

That date is fine for me. Please, though, send reminders a few days
in advance. :^)

For me it's okay. At the meeting I will give a detailed status about
preparations at CERN.

We have still the possibility of printing a conference poster for
announcement. Maybe someone feels motivated to design one during Xmas
holidays. ;-)
Another poster topic: there was the question about having a poster
session. We pre-booked space for that. It must be confirmed until end
of January. Maybe you can think about your opinion before the IRC
meeting.

Cheers
Benedikt

I am fine - although i don't know in which timezone i will be at that
time :)

I suggest to prepare an agenda for the meeting and appoint
someone for moderation that has experience on how to keep things
short and to the point :) Not that i have anything against a
nice chat - mind you - but for co-ordinating it's more fun to
have clear conclusions yadda yadda ...

Makes sense. I guess 30 minutes might be too depending on how much
Benedikt has to say, but an hour is a sensible upper limit IMO.

Now that 2005 is ending, I think it should be the time to make some cosmetic
changes to www.europython.org

1.) change the <title> tag to Europython 2005
2.) change
27-29 June 2005,
G?teborg, Sweden Europython is an annual conference for the Python and Zope
communities. It circulates between different sites in Europe. Having started
in Charleroi, Belgium, it is now in G?teborg, Sweden and will move to CERN
in Swizerland next year. Europython is a community conference run by
volunteers.

to the appropriate time and space coordinates of 2006.

3.) change "highlights" to "Last Years Highlights"
4.) drop "print your program"

Can someone with appropriate access please do at least 1-2?

Merry endyearfestivals,

Harald

Hi,

I've done the changes you suggested. Mainly to avoid confusion with last
year's conference. But is there going to be a new site soon?

Jean-Marc,

thank you very much for taking care!

Just please revisit the <title> tag, on my browser it still has a title of
EuroPython 2005 (and also do a smaller P on the run :)

yes, this confusion avoidance was primary subject.

Hi PBF-Members,

anyone out there? What about PBF and the next Europython Conference? Are we
going to have some activities there?

Can someone please repair the www.python-in-business.org site?

Kind Regards,
Andrew Smart
