Subject: [EuroPython] Examples from the PyQt4 Talk
Message-ID: <200608020152.54877.david@boddie.org.uk>

I've just finished packing up the examples used in the "Introducing PyQt4 for
GUI Application Development" talk in an archive ready for distribution.
I considered uploading the archive directly to the Indico site, but decided
against it because I might need to make changes to it later on.

Instead, I've uploaded it to the Python Package Index and linked to it from
the talk's abstract page:

http://indico.cern.ch/contributionDisplay.py?contribId=33&sessionId=41&confId=44

I included "EuroPython" in the list of keywords I submitted for the package
in the hope that others will do the same, and perhaps this will make it
easier for people to find EuroPython-related material when browsing the
package index.

Hi Harald,

One proposal was submitted: from POV to have EP 2007 in Vilnius.

The four EuroPython board members who voted, voted unanimously in favour
of the proposal.

So, EP 2007 will be in Vilnius. Thanks and congratulations to POV for
stepping up to be the main organizers for next year.

great.

Much thank and congratulation to POV , and to the board for making a
rapid decision.

We can now therefore already start with the organization of the new
version, aka EP2007, the community as usual helping the local
organizers.

As Laura was partly unavailable for the education track, I step in to
propose to manage it if needed.

Thanks again to the organizers and the participants of EP2006. I
really appreciated it and I have not yet had the opportunity to write
it.

Regards,

Nicolas

yes, thanks from here as well! I am looking forward to coming to Vilnius, it's
a very nice city. I think the most significant improvement in our conf
organisation would be to start to go for organising the programme, website
and timeline as early as possible, say November/December this year.

also my many thanks to the EP2006 organisers and to Benedikt from CERN
in particular.

Wonderfull!

So EP 2007 is in Vilnius. Thanks to POV for proposing, thanks to the board
for deciding.

May please somebody with access to the website put up the news? "see you
2007 in Vilnius"

Can we please decide the exact date as early as possible?
So people can allready block that time in their calendars; and can set their
"I come back to this website" reminders appropriately.

Talking about dates I would like to suggest 25-27th of June, 2007 as the
days for the conference.

I need the dates decided as soon as possible because I need to reserve
the venue for the conference in the first week of September.

I am a teacher as well as a software consultant and the teacher's
schedule does not allow me any availability before June 30th.

I would therefore like and sugggest that EP2007 be scheduled during
the first week of July instead if possible

I've done a bit of this; much more should be done of course. It would
be nice to have Jean-Marc or someone help I guess -- I've copied the
EP 2006 workspace as "EP 2007", but not published anything from there
yet...

Dates don't make much difference to me; I don't know what I'll be
doing around EuroPython time, so any one is as good as another!

In related news, should we get "EuroPython 2007" created on
indico.cern.ch? Install Indico ourselves somewhere?

Cheers,
mwh

Michael,

> indico.cern.ch? Install Indico ourselves somewhere?
>

For doing it on cern.ch:

pro
- allready installed
- updates are taken care of by CERN
- indico worked rather very robust for 2006, proven system
- support was fine and quick

con
- we are limited to what they are allowing us (reminder: payments)
- are we really allowed to do that? (i.e. CERN has nothing to do with EP
2007)
- will we still get support for free?
- will CERN have time to do anything for EP in 2007? remember, the LHC will
propably work, maybe they detect the Higgs and could care less about
anything else

for having an own installation:

pro:
- we are unlimited in extending
- EP becomes "self hosted", just as PyPy
- we are independend of CERN allowing us and do not distract them from
detecting the secrets of the universe
- we can integrate indico better within the EP website

con:
- "we" need to do the work of installation & maintainance
- we need the server, bandwith and all
- all the work, all the work

My vote is for installing an own indico instance.

Harald,

I vote for a private installation. I think it would be not easy to
convince people to give support at CERN again. But they promised
giving support for the first installation on our server (what ever
"our server" means).

Cheers,
Benedikt
