Hello,

IRC access is firewalled on CERN. To connect to #europython at freenode,
either try using port 7000 instead of the standard irc port, OR you
could go to the EuroPython Jabber room, EuroPython at conference.jabber.org

Cheers!

Hi David,

if you are logged in you should have access to:
http://indico.cern.ch/contributionModification.py/materials?
contribId=116&sessionId=50&confId=44

There you can upload your talk.

Cheers,

You could also install tor, and socksify your irc client to connect to
localhost.

Google, there should be an howto somewhere:

Hello,

FYI: it is not permitted to use IRC at all on CERN, on any port. Those
that do, will get a letter from CERN system security telling them to
stop IRC:ing immediately.

For on site hangout please use the jabber room instead or use a machine
outside of CERN to access the IRC network.

Do NOT use IRC from machines on CERN please.

/dario

conference dinner the semi final between Germany and Italy will be running. Does
anybody have a solution that does not include skipping the conference dinner?

Don't do this, you'll upset the CERN IT folks:

    http://security.web.cern.ch/security/IRC/

port forwarding via ssh, or ssh and run the irc client on your server.

Or do this, of course.

Yay IT policies.

Cheers,

Hi Group!

Last day of EuroPython and I am sure everybody has lots of photos. So I
made a flickr group for that called "EuroPython".
Find it at http://www.flickr.com/groups/europython/

So add all your photos there, I did already. Additionally I encourage
you to tag your photos with the following tags:

- ep2006
- europython

maybe ep06, europython2006 additionally.

So hope to see lots of photos there!

And enjoy the rest of the conference! :)

Right, you need to join the group and add them there.
You can easily do that also by using the Organize tab, searching for the
tag in your pics and dragging them onto the group.

What are the benefits of the group over the tag?

I've been adding (and will continue to add) photos using the ep2006
and europython tags - these don't appear in the group page though. To
see all the photos just based on the tagging, go to:

Basically more community awareness as not everybody knows what to search
for. In my experiences many people usually first search for a group as
joining gives them also a sense of being part of a community.
Additionally it gives discussion possibilities if needed.

Also I usually think there more places to put stuff the better ;)

Just a suggestion anyway :)

recommend that we do this.

Any "+1" or "-1" ?

Message-ID: <44B1FF55.2090201@ita.chalmers.se>

[Apologies if you receive this annauncement more than once]

CALL FOR EPC 2007 VENUE AND ORGANISING TEAM PROPOSALS
=====================================================

The EPC 2006 at CERN has been tremendous fun and a big success, and now
it is time to begin preparations for EPC 2007.

What we are looking for are proposals for a venue *and* a team to run it
for next year's EP.

Below is the list of requirements:

* The proposal should be:

  - serious and carefully considered

  - made by a team of at least two, not an individual

* Information to include in the proposal:

  - The proposed location

  - The details of the people offering to do the local work

  - An estimated budget of the event

The division of work into separate areas of responsability worked well
this year and we intend to continue with it:

  - there will be a separate team of individuals that will take care of
the content for the conference, will manage tracks, etc. Unless
wanting to, the local organisers wil not have to spend time on this.

  - the economy of the event will be managed by the EuroPython Society -
we will make sure that bills get payed in time, fees are collected,
    invoices are sent, etc.

  - We are going to reuse the website and Indico system, meaning the
    tech-aspects are covered.

  - the board of the EP Society will be available to give what support
    and help that is needed.

Deadlines
---------

The proposition should be sent to the list before 0900 UTC 24 July (the
list is europython at python.org)
By 1800 UTC Friday 28 July, the EuroPython Society board will make a
decision on where to host next EPC.

Those of the community interested in influencing the decision should
participate in the discusison on the list.

More info
---------

If you wish to come into contact with this year's organisers, send an
email to staff at europython.org

If you wish to contact the board directly, send an email to
board at europython.org

If there are any issues you think are not covered here, send an mail to
board at europython.org or to the list.

Sincerely,

Dario Lopez-K?sten
for the EP Society

Oops that's me. I guess I can't upload them since I don't have a proper
"speaker" account (I appeared only Monday 3rd in the timetable).

Could someone uploads the slides for me (or give me an account for that):

Also, as I asked before, I would appreciate if the name of my
University/department ("ULP Multimedia") could appear in the Author line of
the web description of the talk:
http://indico.cern.ch/contributionDisplay.py?contribId=123&sessionId=52&confId=44

Thanks for everything.

cheers

Dario,

during the conference you mentioned I might have helped creating the
conference proceedings. Since people is asking for talk recordings on
dvd, I thought it would be nice to have the proceedings in there too.

So, if this is a good time, just tell me what data you've got, and
I'll tell you what I can do with that.

cheers,
stefano

Hello, the receipt was available for picking up from tuesday, but since
I was unable to get hold of you after registering (we even announced it
on the the wednesday lightning talks) I will have to send it to you by
mail, some time during next week.

Sincerely,

Hello,

Two of our employees (Michael Volkmer and Brian Quinlan) attended your
conference and we would like to reimburse them for the conference fee.
Could you possibly send a receipt for two registration fees? You could
send these as an e-mail attachment or per fax (or post). Thank you very
much.

Hello, I would need to have their registrations numbers sent to
finance at europython.org and I will send their invoices to you (receipts
are only for cash payment on the door registration).

If you need some special information to be available on the invoices,
please attach that information too.

Sincerely,

Hi all,

I'm finally sending in a proposal for the location of the next EuroPython.

- ------------------------------------------------------------------------
We propose to hold the next (year 2007) EuroPython in Vilnius, Lithuania.

The organising team would include:
Aist? Kesminait?, POV
Marius Gedminas, POV
Albertas Agejevas, POV
Gintautas Miliauskas, POV
Ignas Mikalaj?nas, POV
The local Open Source community will join in as well.

The estimated budget for this event is 28000 Euro (including conference
dinner for 300 people).
The estimate is tentative and does not take into account various
possible discounts for the venue, etc.
The conference would take place in a hotel located in the centre of the
city.

Vilnius would be an ideal location for EuroPython to help attract more
companies/programmers from eastern Europe, Russia, etc.
