Subject: [EuroPython] EP 2007: shouldn't we be active ?
Message-ID: <f89206d80701100206x4af3ed09yd87b6513fc6c3acd@mail.gmail.com>

Hello

I wish you all a happy and fruitful year 2007 and us all a very good
Europython conference in July 2007 in Vilnius.

With the new year and the good resolutions and actions that come
along, I was wondering if we should not be active and communicative on
this list, the europython.org website and the wiki about the
organisation of this year conference.

I'll try to be more active myself, contribute ideas and writing in the
wiki and I hereby propose to take the charge of the education track if
this can help (I remember that last year, Laura Creighton had a hard
time and this subject interest me very much)

Could someone help with the archiving of the site of previous year,
while ensuring that they remain fully searchable and usable as
reference, to show everyone how active the previous conferences were ?

What about having our own, if needed, site to deal with the
registration of the papers ? On which machine could this run ? Who
could help with its setup and maintenance ?
(I am afraid I do not have the capabilities, but I am willing to
contribute as much as I can here too)

Best regards,

Nicolas

Yes we should.

I don't think it's so much the specific tracks that need work at this
stage, but rather more conference-wide things. I think it would be
good to try to have a timetable for issuing call for papers, and so
on.

Some kind of widely-spread announcement about EuroPython would be good
to have fairly soon, I think.

We have talked about installing Indico (the software we used last
time) to do this. I could probably install it on the
starship.python.net machine.

We had a promise from the CERN people to help with our installation, I
think.

OK let's start with that, for example in the wiki

modelled on the one of last year.

But if we do this, wouldn't it be wise to have the welcome page of the
EP website adapted to the future ?

Makes sense I guess. We can carve out a bit of the python.org wiki
again I guess.

It is, at least to some extent, isn't it? I guess the local
information and such should be updated.

For help - just let me know and I will remind the indico team of
their promise.

About archiving the page - all the programme part and talks will stay
archived as long as CERN doesn't burn down. ;)
But one could mirror the conference contributions on the new indico
instance if desired.

Hi,

gocept (you might know us) noticed that we never paid for the sponsoring
we did two years ago at PyCon because we never officially got an
invoice. I'm not exactly sure what the agreed amount was, but we'd still
be happy to give you the money and go for another sponsoring agreement
this year.

Just to let you know, maybe someone can contact me privately to discuss
that further.

going to the website today, I realized that the image to draw
attention on the event still had last year dates, and these appear at
different places.

I propose to change this is I get the access and update different

Hi,

it was taken from a pdf poster made for the event. I can't find it, but
I think it was posted on the list about a year ago.
I can help change to header picture then if you need.

Do you have an account yet? If not, visit
http://www.europython.org/join_form, sign up and I'll try to remember
how to give you manager rights....

Hmm, I guess I can remember a thing or two. Do you IRC? I'm usually
in #europython on freenode, though probably not much in the next few
days.

I can provide all the needed local info.
Also, I think I sent a photo of Vilnius for the header of the page to

going to be the Le Meridien Villon (who posted an intro to the

my username is "npettiaux".

Please remember and give me the appropriate rights :-)

yes, I do IRC from time to time, but during the day, I am often
teaching so I am not online.

I'll be able to do it tomorrow afternoon for a good part of the day.

Thanks,

Now we have a problem I remember having with Aiste: I can't find you
in the management interface to edit your permissions. Jean-Marc, can
you spot what I'm doing wrong? I'm going here:

http://www.europython.org/cpsdirectory_entry_search_form

and nothing I search for gives me Nicolas.

While I probably won't be. But we'll catch up at some point, I'm
sure.

Cheers,

Could you do the same for me? It will be easier if I had access for
uploading relevant local info and similar stuff.

No it is not going to be that hotel. In fact I never even considered it
as it is quite some distance from the city.
The conference hotel is going to be Reval Hotel Lietuva.
http://www.revalhotels.com/en/Hotels/Lithuania/Reval-Hotel-Lietuva

There are quite a few other hotels around as the conference is going to
take place in the center of the city.
I will update the information on the website soon.

Thanks. Is there going to be a special rate / promotional code
to use for booking ?

Subject: [EuroPython] EP website and tools : replacing CPS by Plone
Message-ID: <f89206d80701190630t47bca4b4w872d60b158d103db@mail.gmail.com>

A question I raise:

on top of the fact that I do not know CPS at all but rather Plone as a
CMS, and have some trouble getting the needed access, I notice that
the Europython website runs on CPS, a tools once competing in the
zope/python world with Plone but not anymore since Nuxeo has decided
to drop it as well as python to go for java, I suggest that we
consider, now that this should not be too difficult has the EP website
should not be too populated with content, moving from CPS to Plone.

I do also know more people in the community who could provide some
technical help with plone than with CPS.

WHat do you think ?

THanks,

Nicolas

I'm clearly doing something wrong in telling people to go to
http://www.europython.org/join_form, what should I be doing instead?

Yes, there will be a code for registration, but I will announce when
this will happen.

There will be a block of room allocated for EP2007 atendees in the
hotel, I am still not sure how many rooms should be reserved. Any ideas
anyone?

BTW, I've updated the logo on the site (I just changed the date and the
place). If you need to draw a new image the size is 290x80

We've had a pretty constant 300 attendees over the last few years.

Not all of them are going to stay at the conference hotel, but
given that the hotel rates appear to hover around the EUR 100
mark for most Vilnius hotels (at least the ones you find on the
various online booking sites), I'd say 50 rooms is a good block
size to start with.

Subject: [EuroPython] Rome 2008 candidacy
Message-ID: <45B89058.5050501@theshire.org>

I regret to inform you that we have decided to retire the candidacy of
Rome for EuroPython 2008.

We discussed the matter deeply and we had to manage for the retiremente
since most of the people involved people in partecipating to the
organization are either not fully committed to the project or lacking
time due to other duties (family, work, and so on).

I'm sorry for any problem that this decision will cause.
