Subject: [EuroPython] EuroPython 2015: Conference Dinner and Party
Message-ID: <556C758E.7080208@europython.eu>

We all know that good food, drinks and music are essential for a
perfect EuroPython conference and so we?ve arranged a nice cocktail
dinner with local food and a party for the evening on Wednesday,
July 22nd.

*** EuroPython Conference Dinner and Party ***

        https://ep2015.europython.eu/en/events/social-event/

If you want to join the fun, please buy a social event ticket on the
same registration form you use to buy conference tickets. There?s a
new entry available now called ?Pyntxos Social Event? which you can
order using the form. Leave the conference tickets fields blank if you
only want to purchase social event tickets:

               https://ep2015.europython.eu/p3/cart/

We have 600 tickets available for the conference dinner and party, so
please book early. The ticket price includes food and drinks (until
midnight) for one person.

Enjoy,

Subject: [EuroPython] EuroPython 2015: Please configure your tickets
Message-ID: <5572F1BD.4020202@europython.eu>

The EuroPython website supports buying tickets for other people
(friends, colleagues, etc.). As a result, it is necessary to ?assign?
the tickets you buy to either yourself or someone else. The assignment
process is explained below.

Please tell us your preferences
-------------------------------

The reason we?re interested in you applying this configuration as soon
as possible, is that the tickets include a number of preferences which
we need to know about in order to properly prepare the conference.

When assigning tickets you will fill some fields, telling us your
t-shirt size and cut (women or men style) and your diet
preferences. If you don?t provide this information, we cannot assure
we?ll have the right t-shirt available for you. Likewise, if you are
vegetarian or vegan, it is important to mark this in the preferences,
so that we can order enough vegetarian/vegan food.

How to edit the fields of the ticket
------------------------------------

Please see the blog post for full instructions and screenshots and
how the ticket assignment and preference editing works:

Hello,

Is there any information on the sprints to be held in the weekend following the conference? As as first-time attendee, I'm not sure what to expect. Some general information would be great. Do I need to register for them? Can I propose a sprint myself? Can I just work on my own project (RinohType) and be available to help anyone who wants to try it out?

Thanks,
Brecht

Hi ?

I'm not coming to this year's EuroPython but if they are organized in
any way as previous sprints I've attended, registration is requested but
not necessary (depending on if there is lunch prepared or not). You
normally can propose a sprint but usually that's not strictly necessary.
It might just help other people before-hand to pick a topic they want to
sprint on. I remember in Florence, for instance, that there was a
session-slot on the last conference they were anyone could just come up
the stage and present their projects they want to sprint on.

I always simply see sprints as a place where anyone can code with anyone
else on anything ? If you find a project that you're interested in, just
walk up to someone working with it and join ?

Cheers,
Horst

We are fortunate to have a budget of almost 20,000 EUR available for
financial aid this year, thanks to well running ticket sales, speakers
who donated their speaker discounts towards the finaid budget, and a
generous grant from the Python Software Foundation (PSF) as our

We received 52 request for financial aid from all around the world, 12
from Europe, 2 from Latin America, 2 from Asia, 1 from Africa and 1
from North America.

This year we focused on students (40%) and unemployed people (30%),
with the remaining funds going to attendees from startups, academia
and research. We also have specific diversity grants for Django Girls,
PyLadies and motivated women. 75% of the financial aid was given to
speakers, poster presenters, volunteers and Python community
contributors.

Waiting list
------------

Financial aid applicants who were not selected for the first round of
grants will be placed on a waiting list.

Looking for additional financial aid sponsors

Companies which want to help raise the financial aid budget to also

Dear EP 2015 organizers,

I've filed a refund request now four weeks ago in the EP helpdesk (see below), but still have not received any response via that helpdesk or by direct email. I've deserved only one tweet of explanation telling me to be patient: https://twitter.com/europython/status/601335495206019072

That's what I am, but with all due respect, by all definitions of reasonable responsiveness and artful communication I consider this to be a brilliant example of how better *not* to do it. I feel left completely in the dark, thinking that my refunding request might be handled in maybe another four weeks, or maybe after the conference or for Xmas this year or maybe never. And then I think of others being left in the same dark like this. Not a single official response from the helpdesk within four weeks is what I'd call completely unacceptable!

Hi there,

My apologies if this is not the correct place to ask for this, but I
couldn't find any other.

About a month ago I sent an email asking for a price discount, and still no
word from europython staff...It would be great to know if its been approved
or rejected, but this lack of feedback is disturbing, at least.

Thank you.

Please direct such questions to our helpdesk at europython.eu.

Without more context, I cannot really help you.

If you have signed up for financial aid, you should have gotten
an email with the approval/rejection by now.

PS: If you want to help improve the support team's reaction time,
please consider volunteering for the support WG:

    http://www.europython-society.org/workgroups

The support team already processed around 600 tickets up to date
and it's a lot of work. I would like to remind everyone that
the folks behind EuroPython 2015 are all volunteers doing this in
their free time.

Hello,

I will do, thanks.

I apologize if I sounded rude or anything...never meant to. I wrote because
I never got a response from europython. I will try to contact helpdesk then.

I appreciate your efforts to make EuroPython a great event.

Bests,
Alejandro

Subject: [EuroPython] EuroPython 2015: Partner program deadline extended
Message-ID: <5587CB3B.1030407@europython.eu>

We have negotiated an extension of the deadline to register for the
partner program tours with the local tour operator.

              *** EuroPython 2015 Partner Program ***

      https://ep2015.europython.eu/en/events/partner-program/

There is plenty to see in and around Bilbao. We have worked out a
set of interesting tours, together with a local tour company to choose
from, for partners and EuroPython attendees alike:

 * Panoramic tour of Bilbao
 * Excursion to San Sebastian
 * Guggenheim Museum
 * Excursion to La Rioja
 * Boat tour of Bilbao

The tours include travel, lunch and tickets (where needed).

We?d like to encourage early sign-up, since seats are limited.

New registration deadline is July 4th.

Enjoy,

Message-ID: <558AB971.1090601@europython.eu>

We?re pleased to announce a new venture at this year?s EuroPython...

                *** The EuroPython Beginner?s Day ***

         https://ep2015.europython.eu/en/events/beginners-day/

If you?re thinking of coming to the conference but you?re new to
Python, this could be the session for you. Whether you?re totally new
to programming or you already know another language, this day is to
give you a crash-course in Python, and the ecosystem around it, to
give you the context you need to get the most out of EuroPython.

Bring your laptop, as a large part of the day will be devoted to
learning Python on your own PC. This session will take place on the
first day of the conference, the Monday. It will be presented in
English (although a few of the coaches do speak basic Spanish, French
and Italian).

Sessions will include:

 * A high-level introduction to Python and programming in general.
Where did Python come from, what is programming all about, and what
do I need to know to understand all these in-jokes about cheese
   shops?

 * A self-directed learning session, with specific tutorials for total
beginners and more experienced programmers, accompanied by coaches
who will be there to answer your questions and help you when you
get stuck. Learn at your own pace!

 * A session on the Python ?ecosystem? An introduction to the Python
ecosystem: some topics and bits of jargon that are bound to come up
this week: open source, free software, github, packages, pip, pypi,
scientific computing, scipy, numpy, pandas, ipython notebook, web
frameworks, django, flask, asyncio, the BDFL, the Zen of Python,
etc etc. What are the tools, areas of interest, in-jokes, people
   of note.

 * ?How to get the best out of the conference? - recommended talks,
what to do at lunchtimes or in the evenings, tips on when and how
to ask questions (hint: as often as possible!), what an ?open
   space? is, and more.

We really need to get an idea of numbers for this session, so if you
are interested in attending, please drop a quick email to Harry
Percival <obeythetestinggoat at gmail.com> from the program work group.

Also, be sure to get your tickets in time, since ticket sales have
picked up a lot since we announced the schedule.

PS: We?re also looking for volunteers to help with coaching students
during this session. If you enjoy teaching Python to beginners, and
you don?t mind sacrificing your EuroPython Monday to it, please do get
in touch with Harry Percival <obeythetestinggoat at gmail.com> !

Enjoy,

We will have day tickets available, which can be bought at the
conference desk. The prices will be announced soon and be in
the range of roughly half the price you have to pay
for a normal ticket now.

So if your friend decides soon, he can still save some
money by getting a normal ticket now and then attend
the whole conference for the price of two daily tickets :-)
