I didn't know that was going to create a new bug. Does anyone know why I
can't just add an attachment to this bug?

I've written a patch which works on my Linux system. It's pretty
straightforward and non-intrusive to the rest of the build. Since I can't
figure out how to add an attachment in Sourceforge, patch is here:
