Message-ID: <CANjowdp8j0oiVV1aRc-=6MZcpSZJY5gU=BicGyLK+G1kvXtPwg@mail.gmail.com>

Greetings to all,

I am Shaifali Agrawal[1], from India, a passionate Python programmer,
contributing to OpenStack[3] these days. I am first girl from my
state(M.P.) who has contributed to open source projects under Google Summer
of Code and Outreachy programs, pursuing final year of Masters.

I want to start a Python User Local Group "PyIndore" for my city Indore(in
MP, India), have read all instructions on 'Starting Your User Group'[2]
page, now I am suppose to start a mailing list for this new group, google
group can be used for that but I want to confirm once if I can request to
start a new mailing list at mail.python.org so that those people who don't
use gmail can also be part of the new mailing list.

Hi Shaifali, good deal. And am I inferring correctly you want to start a
general Python user group and not a PyLadies chapter focusing on women?

For a mailing list you may contact postmaster at python.org for a new mailing
list.

Hope I can visit you in India someday!

Welcome Shaifali. It's nice to see you on this list after seeing you on
Google Summer of Code communications.

It's awesome that you are wishing to create a Python user group in your
city. Please do let me know if you have any difficulty obtaining a
mailing list.

Looking forward to hearing how the first meeting goes.

Warmly,
Carol

Thanks Carol. It's good to have you here as well. Will surely let you know

Yes, sure.

only but than PyGuj(Gujarat Python user group) initiator suggested me to
integrate Pyladies + PyIndore + Django girls. As of pyladies, here[1] they
mentioned "Anyone with an interest in Python is encouraged to participate!"
So I can integrate the them as of now, later if size of group increase I
can split it to conduct women-only events.

Update, the career coaching sessions appear successful. Participants I
spoke with said they really liked the format and the quality of the coaches
involved.

Coaches even after meeting with 15 people one-on-one in an hour and a half
really liked it.

Carlos Guestrin addressed our 30 students with a personal keynote that
included the history of how he stared in machine learning. We learned that
Graphlab was for named for his Labrador Retriever.

He also covered the courses and shared with students what to expect as they
progress with each course in the Machine Learning specialization.

Now General Assembly plans to host study sessions for our students every
two weeks. Members of Dato's team have expressed an interest in dropping-in
to help students. I'll also make a call to PuPPy members for tutor
volunteers.
