Take a look at http://idlefork.sourceforge.net/

This version of Idle has Stephen M. Gava's configuration system and
will do what you are looking for.

Currently it must be extracted from CVS as there are no packaged files
with the config system available.  See

We are planning an alpha file release in the near future and hope
to have this new version of Idle ready for inclusion in Python 2.3.
