I've looked at FontFile.py, BdfFontFile.py, and PcfFontFile.py, but the
source is just too cryptic for me without comments that say what x, y,
l, d, etc. are supposed to stand for.

I think I might be able to figure it out from learning the BDF format 
and comparing that with how BdfFontFile.py parses, but since *someone*
here must know it, I decided to ask first.  :-)
