[Image-SIG] libImaging questions

Hello,

	Where can I find information regarding the modes 
("1", "L", "P", "RGB", "RGBA", "CMYK") and what they mean.
I can guess RGB, RGBA but what is the difference between 1 and L 
and CMYK ?
