Special Session on "Soft Computing in Image Processing" at the ICVGIP
2004 Conference, Kolkata (India), December 16 - 18, 2004

Call for Papers
==========

You are kindly invited to participate in the special session on Soft
Computing in Image Processing to be organized at the ICVGIP 2004
Conference. ICVGIP 2004, the 4th Indian Conference on Computer Vision,
Graphics and Image Processing, is held in Kolkata (India), from December
16 until December 18, 2004.

Soft Computing techniques involve different methodologies, e.g. fuzzy
set theory, neural networks, genetic algorithms and rough set theory.
The capabiblity of these techniques to incorporate imprecision and
incomplete information, and to model very complex systems makes them a
usefull tool in many scientific areas. Needless to say, image processing
is one of these areas.

The aim of this session is to provide an international forum for
presentation of recent results and advances regarding soft computing
techniques in image processing. It is a unique opportunity for
researchers in this area to meet and to exchange ideas. It is also a way
to establish and/or intensify international cooperation. Topics include
but are not limited to:

    * noise reduction in images
    * edge detection and segmentation
    * feature extraction
    * image enhancement
    * image compression
    * similarity between images
    * image analysis
    * ...

Authors are invited to submit one or more full papers describing
theoretical or practical results for review by April 30, 2004. Papers
should be written in English, not exceeding 6 single-sided pages on A4
paper, in two-column format, in Times or a similar font of 10 points or
larger. If you are interested in submitting a paper for the session on
"Soft Computing in Image Processing", please let us know with a short
email and a short abstract. If you already have submitted a paper for
the ICVGIP 2004 Conference and if you think it fits in the scope of this
session, you can let us know this as well. It is possible to have your
paper moved into the session!

Note: regular papers can be submitted through the conference website.
However, papers for the SCIP session should be submitted to the session
organizers at SCIP at UGent.be. They will take care of the further submission.

About ICVGIP 2004
==============

The Indian Conference on Computer Vision, Graphics and Image Processing
(ICVGIP) is being organized every two years since 1995 by premier
academic institutions and Research and Development laboratories. The
objective of the conference is to bring together researchers in the
academic institutions and R&D Laboratories working in the above fields
and to use this as a forum to exchange views and ideas in these topics
of current research.

All information regarding the conference can be found at the conference
website: http://www.cse.iitb.ac.in/icvgip. The contents of this website
includes:

    * Call for Papers
    * Submission guidelines (also see above)
    * Information about the conference venue
