A day or 2 before the conference. He's not booked yet so I don't have
exact dates. He'd probably leave a day or two after the conference. I
don't think whoever is helping him out would *miss* any part of PyCon
but they might get to Pune a litte earlier and would have to stay back a
day or so extra.

How much time does it take to drive from Pune to Mumbai? If that's
feasible, someone could get there, pick him and drive back no?
