The purpose of this small event would be to: 1. Create buzz about PyCon 2016 2. Bond participants so they will have a good time at PyCon. After every wants to have a good time(bond!!) If people have a good time in an event, It leads to more number of attendees in the future. Current Ideas that seems to be do-able are: 1. Morning 5k run or jog (If possible within the venue itself) 2. meetups/talks/workshops in different colleges to spread the word. This provides speakers the opportunity to trial run their talk. 3. small fun games during breaks in PyCon. Those who are interested to see this happening and would like to volunteer/help or suggest Ideas ,kindly fill this form: http://goo.gl/forms/xyIpw5ceAycp6gLh2 Regards T K Sourabh -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... The submissions would close on June/30th/2016 The community has been constantly putting emphasis on maintaining high quality in talks and workshops for Pycon India. Quality can be maintained only if the proposals are of high quality and the submissions contain relevant content and information to make a proper judgement on selection. It becomes the responsibility of our community to poke and encourage every pythonista around them to submit proposals from their respective field of interest and expertise. Also, I appeal all you people to start reviewing the proposals and comment relevant questions/queries on the CFP portal [1] so as to have a healthy discussion on proposals. Similarly, for the CFP. That's a valid concern, especially w.r.t to using same theme for each year post. Once of quick solution I can think of is having a generic theme so 2015's articles, doesn't look like 2016's articles. Creating blog per year, creates a bit of management/devops overhead. Although I don't the capabilities of volunteers to make it happen. The blog is built with peclican[1], any volunteers to work on a possible solution for this? Okay. I'm not sure how it's run now but earlier, an app would run at in.pycon.org/ and once the conference was over, we'd wget the site recursively and just replace the live app with the static files. That way, the URLs won't break and the site would be maintained but there's no overhead of maintaining an app. This was the what we did for 2009, 2010 and I think for 2011. Let me write why. Generally in any conference dev sprints happen only after main conference, so that the new participants know what to expect. They will also not confused between seeing a talk or being in the dev sprint. During and before the conference last year, I told many times not to do it before the event, same goes to during the event. I am also telling this from my experience from being the coordinator for dev sprints in PyCon US (which is the last 4 days after main conference). Kusha From my last experience, I will suggest to bring Dev Sprint before the conference. I noticed there were few friends who continued coding with their dev sprint team even during the conference. They were keep attending talk in which they were interest and coming back to dev sprint team in free time. This gave them nice time to spent with their dev sprint team. I think this will not be possible if we will arrange Dev sprint after the conference. There can be a compromise where we book the workshop day and the conference days and two days after the conference for dev sprints. So that is one day before the conf, 2 days during the cons, 2 days after. Let people decide when they want to attend, the halls are available to us till 9:00 pm so it's unto the users if they want to stay late till late. I am posting the video of the committee hall that will be used to host the dev sprint https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3HxAg4Qu0I So people can get a idea of the space . Poster sessions, dev scripts can, I suppose, work with a CFP but it's not immediately clear that that's what they're for. Also, the statuses are different which makes it more confusing (2015 is schedule published but the rest are "proposal submission closed"). Also, the theme on this page is something different from 2015 and 2016 which is further confusing. I really think that the namespacing by year (as was done previously) is the most efficient way of organising this. There's no real value in seeing a page with all the CFPs that were ever raised. It's a 3 day conference. The first day (23rd) is for workshops. These will be longer (2.5 hour) sessions with some time for hands on practice and limited one on one interaction. 24 and 25th are for talks which will last around 30 minutes and will be delivered from a stage to a larger audience. There will also be plenty of time to network with other python programmers and the community in general. That's the overall idea. To address your question specifically, there are multiple workshops proposed for the 23rd. The list is over here https://in.pycon.org/cfp/2016/proposals/?proposal_type=8#proposals (you might need an account to view this). They're just proposals now and we're still reviewing them to see which ones will actually be made available. Once that list is up, individual workshops will have their own pre requisites. e.g. https://in.pycon.org/cfp/2016/proposals/generators-inside-out~b2WPd/ is an advanced workshop that expects the audience to know python quite well before attending whereas https://in.pycon.org/cfp/2016/proposals/document-your-code-sphinx-workshop~eX5la/ is a more introductory workshop without many pre requisites. Remember that these are proposals and not yet finalised. So, to answer your questions about pre requisites, it depends on which workshop you're looking at. You'll have to contact the proposer of the workshop to know all the details. As for the the tickets, I'm assuming they'll be up for sale once the workshops are finalised. I'm not sure when that will be. The list is CC'ed in this email so perhaps someone from it will reply. From the review calendar, it looks like they'll be available in late August.
