Since there are a lot of participation in this thread (which is good)
,
here are a few characteristics one would look in a keynote speaker,
whether foreign or domestic - in approximately decreasing priority.
1. Engages with the audience, at all experience levels.
2. Recounts his personal experiences with Python language/community.
3. Does not get too technical with the talk. Technical keynotes are at
best boring and at worst, disasters.
4. (Ideally) is/has been in a position in his professional life that the
audience can look up to.
5. Made his own personal impact on the community/language in some way.
I am somewhat against people who have done (5) so much they are their
own personal brands. But that is a personal opinion.
