Apparently those were for use with "eggsetup.py develop". I don't use
'develop' myself, so I can't comment on how necessary they are
(Jorgen?). Of course it could be fixed further to make it more
generally useful.

That does not appear to be used by release scripts anymore
(Fernando?), so perhaps we could remove it altogether.
