After some thought, here's my suggestion:

%rep PAT

- If many hist lines match PAT, display them. If only one matches, set
it as current input line. Kinda like %hist PAT I proposed.

%rep NUMBER

- set history line #NUMBER as current input line

%rep

- directly execute last line? for readline-handicapped?
