Yes, both points were exactly what I had in mind doing.  It will still
take some manual labor, but the alternatives aren't looking feasible.
On the IRC channel all I got was 'try rebase' (which doesn't work),
and 'try the list'.  I'm running out of patience for this one though,
so I think I'll move on.

If someone figures out how to do this, or has the energy to resurrect
bzr-graft, great.  As far as I'm concerned, the above plan is
reasonable (if not  ideal),  and the faster we do it, the less history
we end up trapping in this side, frozen branch.
