Hello Gerardo,

My name is David Mashburn and I am a graduate student in Physics at
Vanderbilt University.

I saw your GSoC proposal for IPythonQt, and though it looked very
interesting!

I just wanted to let you know about my project as you start work on yours.
I have built a notebook interface atop wxPython's PyCrust and called it
PySlices. It uses scintilla markers for "slice" (cell) separation, has
multi-line support, and has a text-based "almost python" save format. I
also added a little ipython-style magic, because I couldn't find an easy way
to wrap ipython.

Anyway, I just wanted to let you know about my project so we can
collaborate. I guess in some ways we have competing software, but I want to
make both projects better by sharing ideas. I would really like to
collaborate on the save format so the two systems could be used
interchangeably, I think that would be awesome!

Anyway, I'm sure some of the ways I have done things are good and others are
less than ideal, but I thought you might like to see how someone else did
it!

Here are the main links to PySlices:

http://pypi.python.org/pypi/wx_py/0.9.8.3 -- PyPI page

announcement

BTW, I'm the only developer on this, so I haven't really set up an svn as of
yet, but probably could if there is more interest. The best way to look at
the code is to unzip the download from the Google code page.

Looking forward to possibly working together and seeing how IPythonQt
evolves!

Thanks,
-David Mashburn*

Best regards.
