I'm sorry that I completely ignored this for a long time.

Did you ever resolve it?  Are you properly set up on git now, or do
you still have problems?  I now have a windows box I can test on and
know my way better around both git and unicode, so I may be able to
help.

Now that it seems we're picking up good momentum on the git/github
workflow, I hope it doesn't cause you any undue problems.
