I was also confused because of the term "kernel" - recall that this is still 
the *IPython* kernel, so this is not only about code execution, but also about 
many of ipython's nifty facilities.

Indeed, a wild guess would be that in the multiprocessing case, with many 
execution kernels, there would still be only one ipython kernel (since we 
share history etc.).  That might be wrong though. ;-)
