I'm not a heavy matplotlib user, in fact ;). I tried easy_installing a newer
version in the virtualenv, but it wasn't compiling for some reason. I'll try
it again.

This was just with "ipython -pylab", so I assume it should be able to sort
out getting the correct backend.
