I'm not sure if you guys have seen this, but there's a Python Markdown
project that might be useful here. It does mean a round trip for
rendering Markdown, but if you did decide to go in that direction
anyway, this offers an extensible Markdown renderer that we might be
able to build on. I love Markdown, but it would be nice to be able to
extend the language to include Notebook specific features.
