Shouldn't the -i option actually be stopping IronPython from exiting 
when it's done running the script, so as to allow interactive inspection?

Snippet from python.exe -h:

-i     : inspect interactively after running script, (also PYTHONINSPECT=x)
          and force prompts, even if stdin does not appear to be a terminal
