Initial Comment:
I think it would be useful to have an extra level of
authentication where to authenticate, you write a short
password from an image in order to prove you are not a
robot/spam harvester. I think the cookies produced
should be valid for the whole of a mailman install by
default, and that by default, the members list should
use this authentication level.
