I think this feature request is only appropriate for Mailman 2, where each individual subscription is completely disconnected from all your other subscriptions on the system. Mailman 3 would do it very differently, although some of the concepts still apply. >From the UI side, I see things working very differently, and I think this is mostly a UI issue. <20120906233626.15900.74842.malonedeb@wampee.canonical.com> Public bug reported: There is code in Mailman's _Syslog.write_ex() method to catch a UnicodeError when writing the log file and quoted-printable encode the log message. This works on messages that contain non-ascii, 8-bit bytes, but if the message is a unicode with non-ascii characters, the attempt to quoted-printable encode it will throw UnicodeEncodeError which is not caught. Fix this by first encoding the unicode message as utf-8 and then quoted- printable encoding that. ** Affects: mailman Importance: High Assignee: Mark Sapiro (msapiro) Status: In Progress -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Mailman Coders, which is subscribed to GNU Mailman. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1047100 Title: The logger can throw UnicodeEncodeError if the log message is unicode To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mailman/+bug/1047100/+subscriptions From mark at msapiro.net Fri Sep 7 02:27:34 2012 From: mark at msapiro.net (Mark Sapiro) Date: Fri, 07 Sep 2012 00:27:34 -0000 Subject: [Bug 1047100] Re: The logger can throw UnicodeEncodeError if the log message is unicode References: <20120906233626.15900.74842.malonedeb@wampee.canonical.com> Message-ID: <20120907002735.8737.73726.launchpad@chaenomeles.canonical.com> ** Changed in: mailman Status: In Progress => Fix Committed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Mailman Coders, which is subscribed to GNU Mailman. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1047100 Title: The logger can throw UnicodeEncodeError if the log message is unicode To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mailman/+bug/1047100/+subscriptions From 1004000 at bugs.launchpad.net Fri Sep 7 04:58:03 2012 From: 1004000 at bugs.launchpad.net (Barry Warsaw) Date: Fri, 07 Sep 2012 02:58:03 -0000 Subject: [Bug 1004000] Re: Version conflict of zone.interface on installation of Mailman 3.0b1 References: <20120524152659.3918.57595.malonedeb@soybean.canonical.com> Message-ID: <20120907025804.9971.69328.launchpad@gac.canonical.com> *** This bug is a duplicate of bug 889829 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/889829 ** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 889829 setup takes zope interface 3.5.1, but needs 3.8.0 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Mailman Coders, which is subscribed to GNU Mailman. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1004000 Title: Version conflict of zone.interface on installation of Mailman 3.0b1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mailman/+bug/1004000/+subscriptions From sophron at latthi.com Fri Sep 7 13:14:18 2012 From: sophron at latthi.com (George Chatzisofroniou) Date: Fri, 07 Sep 2012 11:14:18 -0000 Subject: [Bug 1047286] [NEW] Notifications for core events References: <20120907111418.9617.11504.malonedeb@wampee.canonical.com> Message-ID: <20120907111418.9617.11504.malonedeb@wampee.canonical.com> Public bug reported: It would be great if core could provide notifications for more events to support plugins or any new internal functionality like: - New subscription - New thread started Those two notifications seems to be essential for the MM3-Metrics module (https://launchpad.net/mm3-metrics) in order to provide a nice overview of the system activity. All I see from your comment is that process number 14402 had units 3 and 5 connected to /var/log/mailman/error and unit 6 connected to /var/log/mailman/qrunner. You then removed and recreated var/log/mailman/error and 'reopened' Mailman's logs, and you see that the process's units 3 and 5 were associated with the deleted var/log/mailman/error file. This is how it works. Should something actually be logged to Mailman's error log, at that time, the deleted file will be detached and the unit opened to the new file. Do you have any evidence that this doesn't work? The reopen function is intended to be used with something like logrotate to switch to the new log when it is first written following a rotate. A typical logrotate script is /var/log/mailman/bounce /var/log/mailman/error (and the rest) { missingok sharedscripts postrotate /usr/local/mailman/bin/mailmanctl reopen >/dev/null 2>&1 || true endscript } This works. If you have any evidence to the contrary, please post details. ** Changed in: mailman Status: Confirmed => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Mailman Coders, which is subscribed to GNU Mailman. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/265868 Title: mailmanctl reopen does not reopen all log files To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mailman/+bug/265868/+subscriptions From tammy.collins at nih.gov Tue Sep 25 15:58:36 2012 From: tammy.collins at nih.gov (Tammy Collins) Date: Tue, 25 Sep 2012 13:58:36 -0000 Subject: [Bug 1056222] [NEW] Can't post to mail list or enter Admin interface References: <20120925135837.1201.52820.malonedeb@chaenomeles.canonical.com> Message-ID: <20120925135837.1201.52820.malonedeb@chaenomeles.canonical.com> Public bug reported: Mail that I sent to the list below has not posted, and I receive the error message shown below when trying to log in to the administrative interface of the following list: niehs-fellowslist at list.niehs.nih.gov "Bug in Mailman version 2.1.9 We're sorry, we hit a bug!
